BUSY WEEKEND COMING UP

25 Days until Christmas and the way I am going with my cards the Easter Bunny will be delivering them.

Another 10 finished, I am doing them in batches of 10, the prep is done for all of them so now onto the production line of putting them together.

The quality of the photo isn't great but I still think it's a cute card. Plain, simple and very easy.

Two of the elements i have used are retired items, the paper and the Foil Snowflakes but like all Stampin' Up! products, latest ones can be substituted and i will mention some towards the end.

The paper I used was Year of Cheer Specialty Designer Series Paper from 2017 Holiday Catalogue, I loved it so bought heaps.

The white background of the paper didn't work for what i wanted to a brayered it in Old Olive. Very versatile products.

SURFER SANTA

My Christmas card plan has come a little unstuck, I had intended to have them all finished by now, 160 needed , sadly only 50 done so the next week or so is going to be full on.

i had decided that I had enough Christmas stamps to get them done for this year, but I couldn't help myself with some of the sets in the Holiday Catalogue, they are just gorgeous and there is so much that can be made with them.

Living in Australia, the Surfer Santa, in the So Santa set is perfect especially when I have family and friends in much colder climates.

Someone mention to me the other day that it is great that the products used are shown but how about measurements, dah ! silly me should have thought of that. I'll go back to previous post and pop the measurements in as soon as I can.

Being a tad older, imperial measurement is what was taught when i went to school so that is what I use, please check my conversions is you go the metric way

Card Base: Whisper White 5¾ x 8¼ scored at 4⅛ (inches) - 14.5 x 21 scored at 10.5 (cm)
Next layer:  Real Red or Old Olive 5½ x 3⅞ (inches) - 14 x 9.5 (cm)
Top: Whisper White  5¼ x 3⅝ (inches)  - 13.4 x 9.3 (cm)
Inside for Sentiment: Whisper White  5½ x 3⅞ (inches) - 14 x 9.5 (cm)

So far I have made 10 of these and how quick and easy was it using the Stamparatus, i cased this from Pinterest, it is so cute.

BACK TO BASIC 2

PAPER AND CARDSTOCK - TYPES OF PAPER AND CARDSTOCK

Next installment of Back to Basics

Types of Paper
MatteA matte surface is flat, not glossy, dye inks and pigment inks both work well on this surface. Pencil and chalks could smudge on this cardstock
GlossyA shiny surface. dye inks will dry on the surface but pigment inks require embossing since the surface in non-absorbent.
CoatedA coating is applied to enhance the opacity. pencils and markers can be used on this cardstock, but pigment ink must be embossed.
PatternedPatterned cardstock is either printed on one side or both can be used for layering on cards, for  scrapbooking etc.
MirrorMirrored cardstock has a metallic effect
GlitterGlittered cardstock has glitter embedded into the paper, if die cutting, this paper should be cut from the back
LinenGives the cardstock a fabric effect.
Better quality cardstocks are dyed right through, this is important when cutting, some other brands are only surface dyed so when they are cut the white middle can be seen.

As acid and lignin (a complex organic polymer deposited in the cell walls of many plants, making them rigid and woody.) over time causes paper and cardstock to yellow and break down it is important to always use archival or acid & lignin free paper and cardstock

BACK TO BASIC 1

PAPER AND CARDSTOCK Paper and Card Weights. My very first Back to Basics post, hope it helps and makes sense

Weight

Typical Uses
80 - 100gsm                Suitable as copy paper, printer paper
120-170gsmThis weight isn’t strong enough to be used as a card base but is a good weight for layering and die cutting, some types are parchment paper, premium printer paper, card background papers, foiled papers, the best weight when making your own envelopes

200 - 250gsm             Can be used for card bases but really not strong enough  if  layering or adding embellishment to your card, it is good for stamping, embossing
260 - 290gsm             Thicker card, suitable for card blanks
300 - 350gsm             Heavyweight Card, a little too think for most card  bases

AMAZING WHAT YOU FIND ONLINE

Earlier this year I tried to set up a blog, i posted a couple of times and then it disappeared from my account, nowhere could i access it, well it may have gone from my system but i just found it by accident up there in cyberspace.

When I first started paper-crafting many years ago no one ever explained to me about the things we needed to use, it was just a matter of , we're doing this, this is what you need for it, off we go.  No one ever explained the different types of paper, different glues, mediums etc. basically it was whatever they were selling at the time.

Over the years I did learn about these things thanks to Mr Google. Being a Facebooker I have notice many people are still unsure of paper weights, stamps, inks etc. so I thought I might address those sorts of things in this blog as well as Stampin up products.

So this is what my first blog was about but then "PUFF" it disappeared, now that I have found it I will copy it over here.
