Most people are aware of the red Poppy and that it symbolises remembrance, but there is meaning behind other colours.

Today my card is purple and I have used the Painted Poppies stamp set, did you know the purple poppy is to remember animals that have been victims of war

Animals like horses, dogs and pigeons were often drafted into the war effort, and those that wear the purple poppy feel their service should be seen as equal to that of human service.

In particular, many horses were killed or injured in World War One.

To me this is a very special poppy and my dog Max wears his with pride every Remembrance Day.
